For the first time in Birmingham, Lazerdiscs Records will host a Synthwave release party. Four artists will bring you the best of retro electro within the heart of an independent brewery:
■ Absolute Valentine (Marseille)
Absolute Valentine is a synthwave french producer who delivers brilliant 80’s electro influenced music. His music takes you back to an era when cassettes, VHS, laser discs and CD’s were part of every day living.
Enjoy the retro-future brought to you exclusively by Absolute Valentine through a highway full of robots and emotional feelings.
■ NINA (London)
NINA is a German synth pop singer-songwriter based in London, UK. Born and raised in Berlin, she began singing at the age of six and she moved on to classical training during her teens. NINA cites Depeche Mode as one of her early musical influences.
■ Sierrα (Paris)
Sierra: Crafted in Paris. Curated to rock.
Our very own cyber-punk has, since the ‘90s, explored the world of futuristic science, and come back with a long list of skills to pay the bills.
Influenced by French touch AKA Tekfunk, Darkwave, Techno (we’re not talking 2Unlimited), and Sci-fi soundtracks. All have honed the sounds you will experience when listening to Sierra’s musical offerings.
This is a person that at 18 years old decided she wanted to save and purchase a synthesiser, after years of jamming with acoustic sorts. Brave and bold, Sierra doesn’t sound like a fish out of water. Sierra sounds like someone who knows where they are going.
This powerful musician is going to be around for a long time, and she’s just getting warm
■ OSC (Birmingham)
Nostalgia can be a faze. Experiences can be had and then put to one side. With this fellow, hailing from the heart of England, all has been processed and all has been enjoyed. What we have here is a musician who has been crafting his musical mojo for the best part of a quarter of a decade and has created a sound of his own formula.
Opus Science Collective: A name that will not wear out, and a sound that will not fade out.
His previous work, ‘Girls on Bikes’, reached the number #1 spot in the Bandcamp dance chart and landed the ‘Best EP of 2017’ on Neon Order (Web Community)… Not too shabby. And, we hope you feel as we do, that there is plenty more to come.
Here’s a brief on his musical evolution: Trained in Jazz Piano (past), sound engineer for 12 years (present), Synthpop superstar bulldozing dancefloors world-wide (future).
So what else do you need to know? Apart from that, OSC will only wear clothes, listen to music, eat breakfast cereal, use hair products (he doesn’t have hair), and watch films from the ‘80s and early ‘90s. Period. And we feel this should be a prerequisite for anyone and everyone.
